Letters After the Monsoon

The monsoon leaves half of Samudra Bay underwater and Mira Sen’s family bookshop one storm away from closing forever. While clearing the damaged second floor, she finds a water-stained novel with a letter hidden between its pages. It is unsigned. It was written eleven years ago. And it was meant for her. Mira writes a reply even though there is nowhere to send it. The next morning, another letter is waiting inside the same book. So begins a conversation between two strangers who leave notes among warped shelves, rain-soaked pages, and the ruins of a bookshop neither of them is ready to lose. The writer calls himself Rowan. Mira tells him things she has never said aloud. He knows the town too well. He remembers places that disappeared years ago. And sometimes his letters sound less like messages from a stranger than apologies from someone who already broke her heart. Because Mira and Rowan have met before. They simply remember what happened very differently. As the rains recede and the bookshop slowly comes back to life, an eleven-year-old secret rises with it.
